Gassan Diamonds & the Rembrandt House
Hidden treasures - Hidden techniques
Around the same time that Rembrandt was born, the first diamond cutter registered his business in Amsterdam. Art and diamond cutting: the two crafts that, thanks to the use of hidden techniques, produce dazzling results. This special arrangement will bring the two together: the technique of cutting a rough diamond into a dazzling gem and the painting techniques that made Rembrandt into a world-renowned painter.
Gassan Diamonds
The diamond cutting establishment Gassan Diamonds brings the tradition of diamond cutting to life. You will learn all about the brilliant techniques of this traditional craft and explore the production process in all its facets. Experience the excitement of 400 years of craftsmanship and tradition. The tour will be concluded on a festive note with a Diamond & Surprise Cocktail, where the champagne won’t be the only thing sparkling in your glass: your glass will also contain a small stone. Our diamond expert will assess each gem to find the winner of the one genuine diamond. An unforgettable experience!
The Rembrandt House
The afternoon will continue at the Rembrandt House. This is where Rembrandt further developed his world-renowned etching techniques, including his special method of mixing paint in such a way that it brought his paintings to life even more vibrantly. You will be given a presentation of the techniques employed by Rembrandt. After this, the group will be divided in two. Both groups will be given etching and painting demonstrations. The visit will conclude with an audio tour of the house. A very special experience, as the museum will be open exclusively for you and your guests. Duration of the tour is about one hour.
